WA State Insurance Commission:
How to Appeal when your Health Insurer says No
OLYMPIA, WA-- The WA state insurance commissioner’s office has updated its online guide showing consumers how to file an appeal when a health insurer denies a claim or medical procedure.
The free guide, revised to reflect recent regulations, includes tips and sample letters. It can be found online at www.insurance.wa.gov/appeal.
“Many people believe that an insurer’s denial is the final word. Consumers don’t know that they have the right to appeal that decision,” said Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler. “And when people do appeal, they often win.”
Under the federal Affordable Care Act, the guide was funded by a consumer assistance grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
