Better Business Bureau is alerting consumers of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be from Microsoft. The caller offers to solve a consumer’s computer problems or sell him or her a software license, all in an effort to gain remote control access to the consumer’s computer.

Memphis TN, February 7, 2012 – The BBB is issuing a consumer alert about Mo Money Taxes, a tax preparation company headquartered in Memphis. Mo Money Taxes has had an F rating with the BBB in Memphis for several years for failure to respond to consumer complaints.
The BBB of the Mid-South has received 24 complaints on Mo Money Taxes in the past three years; 6 of those remain unanswered. Another 8 complaints that were recently filed are pending.

Child identity theft is a growing crime that is causing damage to the pristine credit reports of children. Hundreds of online businesses are finding inactive Social Security numbers online – most of which are assigned to children under the age of 18 who have not started using them yet. These scammers are then selling the numbers under different names to help people establish fake credit. Protecting your child’s innocent, clean record is something that every parent needs to do.

The Internal Revenue Service has issued an alert saying that it has seen an increase in tax-return-related scams recently, especially in the Memphis area. Many of the scams are directed at taxpayers who normally don't even have to file a return. The elderly and recipients of Social Security and other benefits are prime targets of the crooks.
